Self Directed Support
Person with Support Worker

Self Directed Support (or In- Control) has been happening successfully in other parts of the country and is now starting here in Bournemouth led by Andrew Creamer from Community Care Services.

Self Directed Support helps people to be in control of their lives by choosing the support and services they want and being in control of the money to buy these services.

Bournemouth People First is working with Disability Wessex to give people with learning disabilities support with using the scheme.

We also worked in Partnership with Disability Wessex and Community Care to put on an awareness day for Self Directed Support back in September 2007.

Jenny’s Blog

“ Hi my name is Jenny and I am on the pilot for Self Directed Support in Bournemouth.  A pilot means when we try something new to see how it goes.

With Self Directed Support you have to have a Support Plan like the one I’m holding in the photo above.  Gladys is helping me to make my Support Plan.  I love working with Gladys, she is friendly and understanding.

I am hoping that my new Support Plan will help me to achieve my dream...to have my own home!

Watch this space to see my updates of what I have been doing and how the pilot is going!!”  Tuesday 11th march 2008

“ I want people to stop protecting me and let me take risks,

I want people to help me with my ability not my disability,

I want people to support me when I I want to be supported,

My support worker needs to support me, not run my own home!”
