Keeping Safe Card

About the Keeping Safe Project

We want to support people with learning disabilities to feel safe when being out in the community.

For people with learning disabilities to get the right support and be listened to when they report a crime.

For people with learning  disabilities to report Hate Crime and bullying and harassment.

Email Amanda F and Paul for more details.

“Bullying and Harrassment Form” and “Keeping Safe Card”

Hertfordshire People in Partnership kindly let us adapt their “Bullying and Harassment Form” and “Keeping Safe Card” for Bournemouth.

The “Bullying and Harassment Form” is a form that people with learning disabilities can use if they have been a victim of crime.  The form is easy to fill in and can then be taken to the police as an easy way of telling them what has happened.

We also made an easy to read booklet on how to fill in the “Bullying and Harassment Form”.

The “Keeping Safe Card” is small enough that you can keep it on you and has telephone numbers you can call if you need help.  The card also contains a Columbus sticker which people can look out for in shop windows.  People know that the shops that display the sticker are safe to go into if they are in trouble and the shop will help them call the Police or someone on their “Keeping Safe Card”.

Keeping Safe Training

The project has made a training pack which includes an accessible powerpoint and video explaining how to fill in and use both the “Keeping Safe Card” and “Bullying and Harassment Form” .

We have given out over 1000 “Keeping Safe Cards” and have trained over 465 people with learning disabilities on how to use the “Keeping Safe Card” and “Bullying and Harassment Form”.  We have also given awareness training to:

       Witness Support- Crown Prosecution

Ground Workers meeting- Boscombe and Springbourne Neighbourhood            Managment

        Learning Disability Team- Community Care

We have also made a poster to create further awareness of “Hate Crime” against people with disabilities, disphobia. The poster is on Transdev Yellow Buses in our area.

See our training page for more details on the different training we provide.
