Reading our "Bill Of Rights"

We were very upset to hear that another person was murdered in England just because they had a learning disability.

People with learning disabilities are bullied, abused and even murdered because of “Hate Crime”.

“Hate Crime” is when people are discriminated against because of who they are, this could be because they have a disability, because of their race, because of their age or gender.

At Bournemouth People First we have a “Keeping Safe Project” which is fighting against “Hate Crime” and what we call “Disphobia”.

We have made a easy to use crime reporting form and keeping safe card  which we provide training to people on how to use them.

We have also made a keeping safe poster which is diplayed on yellow buses in our area, encouraging people to report “Hate Crime”.

We feel this will stop her having the right to become a woman!

We feel that this should not happen in this country. Everyone should have the right to adulthood.

We feel we should speak up about this Disphobia, these are some of the things we said:

"They can't do that to somebody ",

"I think it's sad",

"She should have the right to be an adult"

"It's sad and dreadful",

"it's wrong",

"I feel very angry about this",

"it reminds me of the way I was treated, like a 2 year old".

We were all very sad to hear a story about a young girl in America, called Ashley. Ashley has a learning and physical disability.

Her parents decided she should have operations including a hysterectomy. They have also given her lots of hormone drugs to stop her growing.

On 20th November 2007 we had our biggest “Big Night Out” so far with about 700 people.

It was at the Pavillion in Bournemouth and we raised over £300 in donations to help pay for the next “Big Night Out”!!

We have also had so many people say good things about the night, it really was a big success.

Bad-thumbs down
electric shocks

We were horrified to hear the news that a school in America for people with learning disabilities use “electric shock therapy” to stop bad behaviour.

We think this is against human rights and should not be allowed!

What we think:

“It makes me angry and upset that things like that are still happening.  Its so wrong! We think its bullying and a hate crime”

“Its abuse! In fact its torture!!”

“ Its really bad, its just not on!”

At Bournemouth People First we want to make sure that nothing like this never happen in England and want to make people aware at how badly people with learning disabilities can be treated.

NEWS FLASH! School uses “electric shock therapy”

Caged Children with learning disabilities

A BBC report has shown that children with learning disabilities in the Czech Republic are being locked in caged beds even though it is against the law.

This is a Hate Crime!!

The video is extremely disturbing and it greatly saddens us to think that people are getting away with doing this. It shows how badly people with learning disabilities are treated.  When the children are briefly taken out of the beds it is clear that they crave human affection but the cages are bare and lacking any kind of stimulation.

What we think:

“They shouldn’t be caged, its against their rights!”

“I’m speechless, there are no words to describe how awful it is that things like that are still going on!”

A while ago we heard about a young girl in America, called Ashley. Her parents got her to have to operations to stop her body changing from a child's to an adults.

We thought this was wrong!

A mother who lives in England then decided she would like this to happen to her daughter, to stop her becoming an adult.

The right to adulthood ....update!

23rd April 2008

We think everyone has the right to adulthood so we were very pleased when we heard that this was not allowed to happen!!

We hope that it is never allowed to happen in England or anywhere again.

“Mind, Body and Soul”

11th July 2008

On 27th June we had a day on being healthy in mind, body and soul by using different or alternative way.

We heard from lots of different people and watched how to:

How to look after our feet

      Yoga

      Reflexology

      Reiki

      Quantom touch

      Metamorphic technique

      Bowen technique

      Head massage

      Aromatherapy (smelly stuff!)

After a healthy lunch we all got the chance to try all these things out as well as speak up on camera and play with a “Music beam machine”- great fun!
